There are as many different types of yoga classes as there are teachers, so if you've tried a yoga class before and decided it wasn't for you, consider trying another style or teacher. The classes I teach are a vinyasa (flowing) style, and are fitness oriented, leaning toward power yoga (my personal favorite!). I offer many modifications for poses and encourage my students to choose the variations that are right for their bodies. I use a minimal amount of the ancient Sanskrit language in my classes, preferring instead to identify poses by their English names, which I believe to be more welcoming for the newcomer to yoga. I teach Pranayama (breath control practices), but I choose not to incorporate yogic chanting or singing which I believe can make new yoga students uncomfortable, and doesn't work well in the environments I teach in.
